Home is... A Creative Writing Task to try at home
TASK: Home is... Writing your own poems about home! First things first, you’re going to need 2 pieces of paper and a pen or pencil.
Step 1. Write ‘Home’ at the top of your piece of paper.
Step 2. Write a list of all the things that come to mind when you think of ‘home’. Write at least 10 things down and make them really specific. Watch the video for some examples.
Step 3. On a new piece of paper, write ‘Home is’ at the top. This is how we are going to start every line of our poem.
Step 4. Complete the sentence ‘Home is’ with the first thing on your list from Step 1. Keep going until you have 10 lines, all starting with ‘Home is’. If you wrote more than 10 things on your list in Step 1, choose your favourite ones for the poem. Remember: poems don’t always have to rhyme, so don’t worry about trying to make your lines rhyme with each other. What is more important is painting really clear picture for us 😊
Step 5. Read back over your poem. See if there are any words you want to change or ways you can make the picture you are describing clearer. There’s an example in the video to help you do this. Step 6. Congratulate yourself, because you’ve written a poem!
